invented landscapes

These are small paintings, done on 8x 5 inch index cards and begun as a rescue mission to not waste paint while doing a color exercise. They became a different kind of rescue mission when they gave me a way to begin painting again after my father died. Simple, small, each one a surprising evocation of a place. They were the inspiration to make a book, Index Card Paintings: Rivers & Mountains.
